Eco Printing

Title: Eco Printing
Instructor:  Judith Colvin
Length: 1 day
Class Date: Friday, June 15
Class Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Description:

We will spend the day completing a number of projects which give experience in preparing bundles that give good contact between fabric and plants to make beautiful prints.

Level:

Everyone

Materials Fee: $25

Students Should Bring:
  • Craft scissors
  • Large rubber bands (size #64 from Staples work nicely)
  • Twine (strong, heavy twine works best. You will be pulling hard on this so thicker is better). Do not bring bailing twine. I use a twisted sisal twine. Other types would work.
  • Garden gloves (to protect your hands when you are pulling the twine).
  • Apron – optional
  • 2 Containers – one to soak leaves in plain water and one to dip leaves in mordanted water – plastic tubs works well.
  • 5 or 6 dowels (3/4″ to 1.5″ x 12″) You can use thinner dowels that you might have on hand but not longer because they will all be going into a communal dye pot or steam bath.
  • Plastic sheeting (an inexpensive plastic drop cloth for painting will give you ample plastic) I am currently using .7 mil – I think anything under 1 mil would work.
