Shibori is a Japanese term for methods of dyeing cloth by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, and compressing. In Japan, the earliest known example of cloth dyed with the shibori technique dates back to the 8th century.

·        Shibori Dyeing – A modern Twist:   This class will focus on techniques used to produce color safely through the use of shirring, and folding and clamping to produce interesting patterns of color and texture on the fabric.

·        Shibori Too will look at wrapping, twisting, folding and binding fabrics that, with the use of multiple colors, will produce a modern take on the ancient form of enhancing and embellishing fabrics.

Materials Fee: $30 ($15 for each class)


Students Should Bring:
  • Old clothes or an apron
  • good rubber or nitril gloves
  • note taking and labeling materials
  • plastic bags to transport damp materials.
