Textural Treats: Patterns and Textures on the Rigid Heddle Loom

Title: Textural Treats: Patterns and Textures on the Rigid Heddle Loom
Instructor:  Jane Patrick
Length: 2 days (Pre-Conference)
Class Date: Wednesday – Thursday, June 13 – 14
Class Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Description:

The simplest of weave structures can be used to create luscious, irresistible cloth. Using the rigid heddle loom, this workshop will focus on how to use yarns, structure, or both to create fabrics where less is more. We’ll explore

finger-controlled lace techniques such as leno and brooks bouquet, as well as pile structures, such as looping, rya and soumak. Simple weaves using plain weave and a pick-up stick, including weft-floats, warp-floats, and warp-and-weft floats, will be explored in depth. We’ll look at the highly textural surfaces possible when novelty yarns and weave structure are combined.

Level:

Advanced Beginner – student needs to have woven and come with a warped loom.

Materials Fee: $10
